Description:
Diversity Visa Lottery Program
(DV) offers 55,000 new immigrant visas each year to people from
underrepresented nations, who are selected randomly from all entries from
countries with low immigration rates to the United States. If fewer than 50,000
immigrants from that country have immigrated to the U.S. in the last five
years, the nation is considered underrepresented.
Five thousand of the 55,000
visas awarded under the Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act
(NACARA) have been used since the DV '99 lottery. The U.S. Department of State
(DOS) holds the lottery every year, selecting roughly 110,000 applicants from
all qualified entries they receive. There will then be an opportunity for these
110,000 applicants to apply for Permanent Residency. In any case, once 55,000
visas for this fiscal year group have been issued (including those allocated
under NACARA), the DV program closes for the year. It is therefore crucial that
approved applicants apply for permanent residency as soon as possible.
Upon receiving a permanent
residency visa through the DV Program, you will:
· Be able to live and work permanently in the
United States;
· It is allowed to bring your spouse and any
unmarried children under the age of 21 to live with you in the U.S.
·
To qualify for the DV Program,
you must:
· The minimum educational requirement is either a
high school education or its equivalent, or two years of work experience within
the last five years in a position that requires two years of training.
· You or your spouse must be a native of a nation
that is eligible for the Diversity Lottery Program. You may be eligible if your
parent was born in a nation eligible to participate in the lottery.
· The Diversity Lottery Program randomly picks the
110,000 visa candidates. Individuals are chosen to receive the visa by chance
and not by merit.
Documents Required
for Diversity Lottery Visas
Typically, to apply for the DV
program, you simply need to provide a letter containing your personal
information. When writing this letter, you must follow all instructions
carefully. If you depart from the directions, you could be disqualified. If you
would like more information on this year's DV Program, you can either speak
with our lawyers/legal representatives or contact your nearest U.S. embassies
or consulates.
Applying for a
Diversity Lottery
Each year, DOS publishes
specific instructions for applying for the DV program. The registration period
for this course usually begins in the month of October. The instructions are
generally available in August. You will only be notified of the winners via
mail at the addresses you provided on your application. Information on fees and
instructions will be sent to the winners. It is not a guarantee that you will
be granted a visa simply because you have been selected as a winner of the DV
program. Due to the fact that not everyone selected will qualify for the visa
or will decide to complete the process, the number of selected entries will be
greater than the number of immigrant visas available. DV for the year will end
once all 50,000 visas have been issued.
